Blog #5 Posible Topic For Personal Essay

How do you make life matter? Coronavirus is one of the latest topics we all have heard continuously; I used these days to meditate this situation that is going on around the world. The pandemic virus is something serious that we need to take care of. I have heard that the main people at risk to contract the virus are people with respiratory diseases, older adults, and people with a low immune system. My life is not at a high risk of getting COVID-19; nevertheless, my mom is in her 50s, and she has diabetes. People with diabetes tend to have a low immune system; thus, they are more prone to come down with COVID-19. My mom is my everything, so I have to take care of myself and act responsibly in order to protect my mother.
What is life’s value for you? Most of the time, we do not recognize the significance it has the fact to be alive. There are people that at dinner prefer to be on the cellphone than interacting with their family; and, there are people that live apart from their families that wish to have the opportunity to chat at dinner time with their love ones, but they cannot. People do not realize that we are so vulnerable that today we can be alive but life happens, we do not have tomorrow for guaranteed. We should all be grateful and blessed to have health, to have a family, a home, food and most important to be alive. There are many reasons to be thankful; there are so many things that you haven’t accomplished yet, dreams that you are leaving for tomorrow. It is good to have plans for the future, but it is better to start living now, express your love, start those changes that you are afraid to commit, we all are scared to fail, but it is worst not to try at all. There are no errors in life; there are lessons that teach you how to progress in the future.  After all, what are you grateful for?
One of the things that make me feel alive is my family. I define myself as family-oriented; I feel blessed to wake up and see my family first thing in the morning. I remember my days as a kid having breakfast all family together. Now because of different schedules, we have breakfast together once in a while.  There are things that I missed a lot from my childhood, that whenever I have the opportunity to repeat now, I take it. The support of my friends in my worst days; the party nights with them are things that make me feel alive at its fullest. The beach’s breeze in the morning touching my skin, the summer’s sunsets, the October’s full moon, the colorful lights on Christmas’ time, are simple things that make me feel alive and thankful for. When I meditate I like to take time to contemplate my life and see how vulnerable we all are in the world. This makes me want to live wild and free; with responsibility but without restrictions, valuing the fact that I am capable of anything. Outside there are people who are being diagnosed with terminal diseases, people that do not have a home, food or family;  people that is having bad days that make me realize that instead of complaining of my life or my problems I should enjoy them instead and become fully aware that all these things are what life is about.

  1. Hi Michelle! I think you could use many of these personal experiences to create a great and interesting essay. I know many people are interested in life choices and what we value most. With everything in the news, I think even more people would be interested in questioning their values and what is important to them and their life. I'm interested to see how you conduct your essay and tie everything together, great post!

  2. Hi Michelle,
I think you did a great job connecting to all of us speaking on the COVID-19 outbreak happening in the world. Everyone is going through it. Great way of not only getting personal with yourself but with us all. (literally) I really like how you are touching all aspects of your life and including the things we miss out on when we aren’t fully there. You speak on how vulnerable both individuals, and life are. You shared personal experiences and that's exactly the goal of this assignment. I strongly believe that your question is on a lot of people's minds. I know that I have been evaluating my life, and questioning the value I find now and seeing the things I miss. (since we are all advised to stay home) You got an interesting topic, and I think you got it down (:
    Good luck
