I miss seeing this type of sunsets. My family and my friends are what gives me hope in a time of corona. I have always been a very positive person, so I try to keep myself with positive thoughts during this pandemic situation. I hope that one day this will be over and we all are going to go back to our healthy lives. I will be able to go back to do my common hobbies like going for a coffee with my friends, go to the movies, go to shopping, do sleepovers, go to parties and many more activities. I hope that one day we will get together with our loved ones.  I meditate two to three times per week to navigate the crisis and distract myself.  I also do exercise every day for at least 30 minutes, I practice yoga once per week, I  cook and bake recipes that I have never made before, I watch Netflix with my family at night, I do video chat with my friends on weekends, and I clean my house.  I typically tend to blame the fact that I do not have time to do different a...

How do you make life matter? Coronavirus is one of the latest topics we all have heard continuously; I used these days to meditate this situation that is going on around the world. The pandemic virus is something serious that we need to take care of. I have heard that the main people at risk to contract the virus are people with respiratory diseases, older adults, and people with a low immune system. My life is not at a high risk of getting COVID-19; nevertheless, my mom is in her 50s, and she has diabetes. People with diabetes tend to have a low immune system; thus, they are more prone to come down with COVID-19. My mom is my everything, so I have to take care of myself and act responsibly in order to protect my mother. What is life’s value for you? Most of the time, we do not recognize the significance it has the fact to be alive. There are people that at dinner prefer to be on the cellphone than interacting with their family; and, there are people that live apart from their familie...

Blog #4 Mushfaking

Mushfaking is something that everyone has committed once in their lives. I have been raised with good values at home; my mom always told me to say the truth at any time, under any circumstances. Sometimes life forces you to tell lies in order to obtain what you need. I have to admit that about two years ago I mushfaked at my interview in order to get the job. I remember that two years ago my family was passing through financial problems, and I was desperate to help my parents to bring more money home. I am a full-time student so my parents had never let me work before, but I could not stay at home and do nothing but just watching my parents working extra hours to be able to pay the bills. I decided to apply for a part-time job so I could help a little bit with the spences. I submitted my applications to work at a couple of retail stores, restaurants, and coffee shops. One day I received a call, the Walmart's manager was calling because of my application, she was interested in me w...

Blog #3 The Secrets to Succeed in College

College might be difficult at first if you do not have an idea of what you want to be in the future. Choosing the right career is everything because what if you choose wrong? I remember my first year in college, it was a mess. I was totally lost because I was not sure what career to choose. Once I decided, my pathway came clearly and easy to continue. In my first year of college,  I suffered stress and anxiety, but I could prevent that if I have known the following tips before. 1)  Don’t procrastinate. I have learned to organize my time because of the bad experiences I have passed before. I used to be the typical student that leaves everything to do for the last minute, however, because of that, I once suffered from health conditions. From then to now,  I buy a new agenda each semester so I can organize my chores. 2) Ask for help. I am a shy person, so I hate asking for help because I am afraid of making errors and that others would make fun of me. In college, I le...

After reading Lyon's poem, I decided to follow her poem's structure. I noticed that in every stanza she describes something from where she is from. I wanted to ex...

Blog #1 Don't Fear Change

Self-acceptance is tough to achieve because of what social media is constantly exposing. The ideal model social media shows is a curvy but skinny woman who is mostly full of plastic surgeries. Me as a woman, I felt the pressure that I will never be that beautiful unless I put myself under risky diets or surgeries, however, one day I decided to change, so I went to therapy.  I attended to the psychologist for a certain period of time. It took me about two long years to assimilate that beauty comes in different sizes, different heights, skin tones, and nationalities. I began my journey of acceptance by taking care of my mental health, later I started to exercise and lastly, I adopted a proper diet. In one year I achieved to lose 26 pounds and gained thousands of self-confidence. This picture shows at its fullest how happy I am now.
