Blog #1 Don't Fear Change

Self-acceptance is tough to achieve because of what social media is constantly exposing. The ideal model social media shows is a curvy but skinny woman who is mostly full of plastic surgeries. Me as a woman, I felt the pressure that I will never be that beautiful unless I put myself under risky diets or surgeries, however, one day I decided to change, so I went to therapy.
I attended to the psychologist for a certain period of time. It took me about two long years to assimilate that beauty comes in different sizes, different heights, skin tones, and nationalities. I began my journey of acceptance by taking care of my mental health, later I started to exercise and lastly, I adopted a proper diet. In one year I achieved to lose 26 pounds and gained thousands of self-confidence. This picture shows at its fullest how happy I am now.

Thank you for sharing your story of understanding and accepting yourself. Our media portrays beauty in ways most of us can never reach, and we absorb it without even realizing that's what we are doing. You took control. Your picture is celebratory, and I can see that celebration is internal.
ResponderEliminarI'm so proud of you for both going through this journey and transformation, and for sharing it! I understand how you feel completely. I have terrible self-esteem and somewhat of a negative self-image, but through having a good support system around me, I'm slowly getting better at loving who I am and loving myself completely because of it. You are a beautiful human being and this post was beyond inspiring. But, I am curious as to what your diet was like! Granted I know everyone processes food differently, and everyone holds weight in different places, BUT I would love to know about how you found your proper diet plan. Because finding what works for your body is a difficult process, in my opinion that is. But having said that, keep slaying your life queen! Don't let the haters and social media trolls get you down :)
ResponderEliminarMichelle,
ResponderEliminarI believe self-acceptance is key to survive in all types of ways. That being emotionally, mentally, and of course physically can also fit there. You are right about social media, it portrays a certain image, making females believe they have to look a specific way to be pretty. The pressure is certainly real! It is a suffocating pressure. One of the biggest reasons being due to everyone trying to fit in somewhere. [most times] You connected a real world problem exactly where it goes, in/ to life. Social media attacks so many of our lives, and we certainly give it that much power.
Thank you for sharing your journey of acceptance. Not all of us are openly ready/ open to do that. Congratulations to you, for the new you! You look extremely happy, you look like you are living in the moment, and the best part is that it was captured!
Hi Michelle,
ResponderEliminarI can very much relate to your story and am proud of your accomplishment. Ever since I was little I was always quite petite then while being in college I had gained some weight. So whenever I see relatives they would always say, "Oh it looks like you gained some weight" or not even directly towards me but to my parents but I would still be able to hear. And so I became more self conscious about it. So last year I had decided to count my calories and to start going to the gym at least three or more times a week. After about six months had passed I was able to lose 10 pounds and I feel a lot more confident and fell in love with my body and who I became on the way. But I truly am happy in your accomplishment, because overall true happiness comes from you and you alone.
Thank you for sharing your story,
Aimelene Garon
